Retail Baking graduates can work as bakers or pastry cooks in supermarket bake houses, hot bread shops, in-store bakeries, plant bakeries (includingTip Top and Buttercup), bread and cake franchises (including Bakers Delight, Brumby’s and Cheese Cake Shop), restaurants, cafes, hotels (both local and international), catering institutions and hospitals. Sufficient industry experience in these roles can lead to future employment as sales and technical representatives for multinational companies and ingredients, equipment, catering and food service organisations. Employment may also be gained in research and development, retail and production training and as a senior manager in bakery or grain related food processors.
Patisserie graduates can expect to find employment in resorts, international hotels, cruise ships, world class catering and convention centres, high class restaurants and specialist patisseries and cafes. Highly skilled Patissiers are sought after all over the world.
Salaries vary depending on the role, however many graduates can earn in the vicinity of $35,000 to $65,000. To be successful in the baking industry, a person must be well presented, disciplined, an early riser, flexible, passionate, highly motivated and a good team member.
